CM Punjab Approves ‘Rehmat Card’ Scheme for Widows and Orphans
LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz has approved the launch of the Rehmat Card scheme, a new welfare initiative aimed at providing direct financial support to widows and orphaned children across Punjab.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister, where officials presented the proposal for a targeted assistance program for vulnerable families in the province.
Under the scheme, eligible widows will receive Rs100,000, while each orphaned child will be given Rs25,000 as financial assistance. The program is designed to reduce economic hardship and provide stability to families who have lost their primary breadwinner.
First Phase to Support 50,000 Families
Officials informed the meeting that more than 50,000 underprivileged households will benefit in the first phase of the Rehmat Card program. The initiative is expected to strengthen the provincial government’s social protection system and provide relief to families struggling with rising living costs.
The project will officially launch after Eid, with preparations already underway to ensure transparent and efficient distribution of funds.
Multiple Registration Options
To make the scheme accessible across the province, authorities said beneficiaries will be able to apply through multiple channels, including:
- A dedicated mobile application
- An official web portal
- Government call centers
- Zakat and Ushr Department offices

‘Support with Dignity’, Says CM
Speaking during the meeting, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that widows in Punjab should not have to depend on charity.
She said the government considers it a state responsibility to provide dignified support to vulnerable citizens, adding that provincial resources belong to every resident and should be used to protect those most in need.
The Rehmat Card program is expected to play a key role in improving financial security for widows and orphaned children, while helping families meet basic needs such as food, education, and healthcare.
